Eczema: make up and face-care products
People suffering from eczema have hypersensitive and reactive skin presenting with redness and mild peeling. A suitable hydrating base is thus essential to soften the skin, smooth out scales, and determine make-up quality.
In case of very flaky skin, opt for a balm instead of a cream. Various dermo-cosmetics manufacturers offer a range of skin care and make-up for sensitive skin.
How can you wear make-up when you have eczema?
Step 1: materials
A tinted hydrating cream is often enough to even out the complexion when eczema is not present. In the case of face eczema, after applying treatment (topical corticosteroids or tacrolimus), a thicker foundation or even a compact can be used to conceal lesions.
To even out the skin tone, use a fluid foundation corrector by dabbing it on with a sponge.
Key points:
- In case of a latex allergy, choose a latex-free make-up sponge
- Be mindful to clean and change your sponge regularly
Step 2: beautify the face
Beautify the skin
To set your make-up and mattify the skin, use a translucent mosaic powder.
- Place some of the powder on a large brush, and remove excess product by tapping the brush against the back of your hand.
- Set and mattify by applying the translucent mosaic powder over the entire face and neck.
Key points: In case of severe eczema, skip the powder as it may dry out the skin and thus increase itching.
Beautify the eyes
For the eyelids, it is advisable to wait until the eczema has healed before using eyeshadow or mascara, and to always use a range developed specifically for "sensitive skin".
For an intense look, draw the eyebrows using a dedicated concealer pen. Mark the three points used to redraw the eyebrow:
- Start point: the line extending from the outer corner of the nostril to the inner corner of the eye
- Peak of the arch: the line extending from the outer corner of the nostril to the pupil
- End point: the line extending from the outer corner of the nostril to the outer corner of the eye
- Apply the corrector pen in small upward strokes in the main part of the eyebrow
- Blend using the end of the brush to soften the color and achieve a very natural result
Tip: for better hold, powder the eyebrow before and after applying the corrector pen
To really make your eyes pop, use a mascara suitable for sensitive eyes and skin.
- Position the brush along the lash line, then move from the base to the ends of the lashes in small zigzag motions.
- Key point: use the inward curve of the applicator to intensify and curl lashes, and the outward curve to separate them
Tip: use the applicator tip to separate the lashes at the inner and outer corners
Beautify the mouth
To enhance the mouth, use a lip pencil and lip stick
Tip: in case of dry lips, apply lip balm as a base, and for a more natural look, apply a lip cream instead of a gloss.
- With the fine point of the pencil, draw the lip contour starting from the center and redraw the areas to be corrected
- For better hold, fill in the lips with the fine end of the pencil
- Then apply the large end from the center of the mouth outward.
Tip: for make-up hold that lasts, finish with a light spritz of the thermal spring water spray, 20 cm away from the face
How do you cleanse your skin and remove make-up?
Make-up can be removed with micellar lotion or a fragrance-free make-up removal lotion; however, even if the label states that it is a "no-rinse", the product should be rinsed off with water.
Using a thermal spring water spray can be a pleasant way to finish off make-up removal.
Removing eye make-up
- Remove eye make-up gently by applying thermal spring water spray with a cotton pad before applying a gentle make-up removing gel formula. The thermal spring water is refreshing and compacts the cotton fibers, thus providing even more softness
- If your eye make-up is light, save time by using a make-up remover for the face
Make-up removal and face cleansing
Use your fingers to remover make-up. This is less irritating on the skin than rubbing it with a cotton pad
- Apply a sufficient amount of make-up remover onto the fingers
- Apply to the face in circular motions to gently remove make-up and impurities from the face
- Wipe off the make-up remover using tissues
- Finish with a spritz of thermal spring water
Tips:
- Choose ultra-soft paper tissues which will be gentler on the skin.
- To make the tissues even softer, spray them with a light mist of thermal spring water before applying them to the face.
